PWS providing water temperature (or other temperature) data
There are a couple of stations relatively close to me for which it is obvious that they are reporting water temperature information for a large lake instead of the air temperature information. Because there is no way for them to categorize the data as being water temperature, it gets erroneously categorized as air temperature, technically degrading the quality of the Wundermap.
Perhaps a drop down list in the station config to define what the primary temperature report is actually reading would be good. The idea could be repeated for second, third, etc. temperature reports, if permitted. The list might include: Air, water, soil, pavement, user-defined. Water and soil might have the argument of depth appended to it. User-defined would allow a short descriptor.
I agree with N9PBY. I have a sensor for water temperature that I have setup on the major river that I live on and I have no way to transfer that information along with the other data that my Vantage Pro 2 collects to the Wunderground website. The personal weather stations are getting more advanced and Wunderground needs to catch up to todays technology.
This is a great idea and we're planning on adding ways for people to add sensors other than standard weather (e.g. air quality, water temp, solar thermal, etc...).
Some interested sensors we already accept are solar radiation, UV, leaf wetness, soil temperature, and soil moisture.
