Improve radar and satellite animation quality
Animation is not smooth, but rather jumpy or jerky
139 votesWe’ve released improvements to the WunderMap animation for Radar and Satellite layers.
In particular, you’re likely to see animation improvements for shorter animations (1 hour-long for recent radar, and 10 hours for recent satellite).
To maintain animation quality for long animations, by default we’ve compressed the animations to 12 frames. However, you can disable this option if you want to run a long animation and include every data frame available. The option can be changed from within the Animation dialog.
We’ve also added a progress bar above the animation controls to indicate when the animation is loading.
You will see the best animation quality after the animation has looped once. The second time through all of the data should be fetched and the transitions more smooth.

Create a buffer for animation.
Not sure if this is possible using your current model and code, but I think that creating some sort of buffer that loads the satellite/radar images in advance and then plays them back could greatly improve the performance of your animations. I realize that it may take longer for the animations to load, but in my opinion, this would be preferable to the stuttering images.
If this is utilized, then a loading bar for the images would be a nice touch so people know that the site is working and not stuck.
8 votesI forgot to update this. A couple months ago we modified how the animation worked and included a buffer with a loading progress bar.

either get rid of that time line thing or give me the option of just the last 5 or 6 hours.
i dont care what it did 2 days ago and you cant predict what it's going to do 5 days from now. the last gereration software worked just beautiful. please give me the option to go back
207 votesThanks for your patience.
We’ve just added new animation period presets of 1, 2, 4, and 8 hours to the Animation dialog — no need to use the timeline for these!
For instance, to animate the previous two hours, open the animation dialog, choose “Past 2 Hours” and press the play button.

Single button to hide all WunderMap Controls
The new WunbderMap is great, but the screen is cluttered. I would like to be able to hide (and restore) ALL controls (location, zoom, maps, data, animation, etc.) with a single click.
14 votesWe’ve added a presentation mode. You can toggle it by clicking on the button that looks like a monitor next to the Save Prefs button in the upper-right of the page.

Speed control
It would be great to be able to control the animation speed for the radar maps.
As a contractor, I rely HEAVILY on the radar maps to make management decisions in a quick fashion, because I have to get out phone calls to my workers, and time is of the essence. Watching the slowness of the animation is painful because I have to get on to other things in a jam packed day.
Thanks.130 votesSpeed control has been launched. You can choose between five speeds under the Animation dialog next to the start/pause button.

I believe we changed the color of the font for stations that have a dark background color. let me know if this didn’t address the issue.

Animation Period
Need more preset selections in the Animation Period; ie 10, 15, 20, 30, 45, 60, 90 mins. This would be helpful tracking storms during severe weather. Please and thank you.
7 votesWe’ve just added four new presets: 1, 2, 4, and 8 hours. Unfortunately, because we don’t capture data at a high-enough frequency, the smaller periods (in minutes) would typically not include more than one data point.

Add real time Lightning Strikes
add real time lightning strikes along with the storm tracks, give it a time limit to show from current to maybe last three hours.
49 votesWe just launched a first draft of the lightning strike layer today. In the layer list, it’s under “Severe”.

No Navigation back to Weather Underground Site
There is no menu to navigate to any other part of the Weather Underground Site once the WunderMap loads. It requires the user to either go to their favorites to reload or use the address bar to clear out /wundermap/ to get back to the site.
21 votes(technically, yes you can do this; see new idea in comments)

Makes Map Pretty Small
All the data is great. Problem is that this page is about the map. All the data options makes the map pretty small.
18 votesTo address this issue, we’ve done two things: first, we’ve added a button to make it easier to hide the sidebar; second, today we’ve added a button to toggle presentation mode (which allows you to hide/show all wundermap controls). The button is to right right of the “Save Prefs” button.
Thanks for your feedback on this issue!

The advertisement below the layer panel takes up too much space
The new WunderMap is now useless. The advertisement panel below the layer panel is far too big. The options are forced to a tiny window which is not easy to see or use. You need to scroll constantly just to change a couple options.
I won't be coming back unless its the way it was before. It far too aggravating to use.
20 votesThere is now a link to hide the ad (just above the ad itself).

Unable to hide sidebar
I dislike the beta version. I can no longer hide the sidebar which reduces the map area. I can no longer easily get back to the current conditions.
67 votesSidebar can be hidden by clicking on a new button in the upper-right corner of the sidebar.

The new version no longer works in Chrome on Android phones and tablets.
Tested with Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX HD and Motorola Xoom. The old version worked but was inconvenient to use. The new version is unable to load a useful map with radar overlay.

Restore weather station list
There was a data tab in the prior version listing all weather stations.
This is gone or hidden somewhere. While on this topic, yet an older version highlighted the list item as the mouse scrolled over the map station icon. This has been gone for some time.
The reason, the ability to open a separate window for some stations
(like those with frequent updates). This is useful to track actual frontal passage, etc... Can't right click on map icon to open in a new window/tab. Only in the list (which is now gone?).
Also difficult to find station since mouse…2 votes -

Good Improvement
I like the direction of the wunderblog, such as IE8 working betterr, and the large amount of customizability, such as the time ranges and the ability to tweak almost anything. Can't wait too see it once playback speed is fixed and they get all the cool new features in.

Thank you
I must say that I do believe you have fixed it again, I can once again it would appear actually use the radar and satellite and find them again VERY USEFUL. THANKS AGAIN !!!!!!!!

Be able to switch station data displayed
The old versin i could see temp, temp+wind or precipitation on the weather stations, it doesn't look like you can do that any more.
1 voteIf you enable the WeatherStations layer, click on the gear icon to the right of the layer label. It will allow you to switch between the different display modes you mention.
