How can we improve Weather Underground mobile apps?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

  3. On the Roku app, add a setting for automatic refreshing at user entered intervals.

In the Roku app for WeatherUnderground , the app sits and need manual refreshing. I went ot automate it with an IR blaster, but when the screen refreshes itself, it moves the cursor to another location, and does not keep it on the refresh button.
It would be far better to allow user settings to turn on auto refresh at certain user entered intervals.
The radar map could be a higher finistion, an show storm movement, but that is secondary to having the screen auto-refresh itself.

  8. Provide option for not collecting wx data when android app not active

My android smartphone battery is drained much more quickly when the wunderground android app has been used. Apparently, the app is collecting weather data even though the phone is asleep/turned off (though the operating system/phone is still active and monitoring for calls, email and such). I have found only one way to keep your android app from very actively collecting data: 1. go to the phone settings; 2. select the list of all apps; 3. select the list of running apps; 4.select the wunderground app icon; and 5. click STOP. This is a burdensome procedure just to briefly look at…

  9. Improve Mobile App view

On the mobile app in urban areas, the secondary map layer projection is placed above the actual weather. While this improves the location capability it no longer lets you see the big rain about to hit you. Only place the interstate layer above the weather so users in urban areas see the rain. 10. Alternative data in status bar

Display Wind speed, or Precipitation, or some other parameter in status bar, alternative to the only present option "temp" (in settings). So instead of keeping an eye on the temperature "temp" in my native Honningsvåg, I might want to know the precipitation, or some other parameter. Add those various options as alternatives to the "settings" of the Android app.

  11. Add local time

Display the actual Local Time for each city/location/place (in addition to "Last Updated on...") on the location's page. With this function, we could use the (Android) Weather Underground app like a world clock. E.g., my folks live in Honningsvåg, Norway, and I have a widget for the place on my phone. Sometimes I use a second app to verify the local time at Honningsvåg, and if the Weather Underground page showed that time, I wouldn't need that secondapp. Thanks, Kjell.

  12. Add wind direction/barbs to Android map like in Wundermap

Just got an Android phone. On the Android App, the map points only show temperature and not the winds. This is not a common look-and-feel with the wunderground web versions. I miss the wind info, and the different look and feel makes it seem like it is not Wunderground. Consistency is key. If something works, why change it?

  13. Add NWS "Scientific Forecaster Discussion" to the iPhone app

I spend a lot of time reading the NWS "Area Forecast" (shows as "Scientific Forecaster Discussion" on the main website).

Please add access to that data into the iPhone app!

  14. A few ideas to make a better iPhone app

    1. On the home page, a map takes up half the screen. But there is also a dedicated map page. Why have both? Maybe remove the map on the home page and add in the detailed weather info like humidity, wind, visibility, or the detailed weather descriptions.

    2. On the home page, you have the scrolling 10 day forecast. Can you put the date in each box. That way, we know if we are looking at the Friday tomorrow, or the Friday in 8 days.

    3. In the hourly, have an option to click on a specific hour to expand…

  15. Make it universal for iOS please!

This should be a universal iOS app. Please make it so. I would like to use it on my iPad and have it not look cheesy and cheap. Image resolution pretty poor as well even one iPhone.

  16. Add fronts map with animation to maps section of mobile app

On the main desktop version of Weather Underground site, you have the option in maps to see current conditions showing the fronts and radar on a nation-wide map with the option to animate the map and see where the fronts have been and will likely go soon. This would be awesome to have on the iPhone app. Thanks.

  19. Separate animation toolbar toggle on iPad

I would like to turn animations on and off with one click instead of two. Current feature location under Layers is not intuitive.

  20. Add a key to the colors on the map.

Is violet more snow than blue? It would help if somewhere on the edge of the map a legend for the precipitation type/amount was visible. I could not find what all the different colors meant anywhere. By not having that information readily available, a large amount of information provided by the map is uninterpretable.
