How come when I add up the rain figures in the tabular data they do not equal the figure for total precipitation?

This happens for a couple of different reasons. The totals will not sum up correctly if we miss a report. You need to make sure that all 24 hours are present. It will also be a problem if multiple reports are issued within an hour. If this happens, the amount reported is the amount that has fallen so far in that hour, so if you sum all the reports for that hour, you will get an overestimate of the rain.
