Alerting/Push Notifications

Within the application, we will display an alerts panel in the bottom left corner of the home screen when there is a severe alert, precip alert or lightning alert for your selected location.

A Tropical Panel will display if there are any tropical cyclones within a specified distance from you. You can modify the alerting distance or turn this OFF by going to app settings>Alerting.

On an iPhone, the tropical panel can be moved to another location within the panels area by using a click, hold and drag motion. Storm provides Push Notifications for Lightning, Precipitation and National Weather Service (NWS) Watches and Warnings. You can specify which types of Push Notifications you receive in the application's Settings>Alerting page. This is also where you will specify your push notification location. Your Push location can be your GPS location (follow me) or a specific location.

We send Push Notifications for the following NWS/Environment Canada weather situations:
  • Tornado Warning or Watch
  • Severe Thunderstorm Warning
  • Hurricane Warning or Watch
  • Inland Hurricane Warning or Watch
  • Tropical Storm Warning or Watch
  • Inland Tropical Warning or Watch
  • Flash Flood Warning
  • Winter Storm Warning
  • Tsunami Warning
  • Severe Local Storm Warning
  • Severe Weather Warning
For Lightning and Precipitation Notifications, go to settings to specify the distance around the location you wish to be notified about. You can also specify the intensity of precipitation that you can be notified about.

If you wish to receive Push Notifications and the application indicates that they are OFF, you must go to the device Settings>Notification center to turn them on for Storm.
